Research & academics

Most notably, Glasgow is home to the Glasgow School of Art and its postgraduate research centre, the Digital Design Studio (DDS), which both serve the ever-growing creative and digital industries.

Glasgow School of Art is recognised throughout the world as one of Europe’s foremost university-level institutions for creative education and research. Glasgow School of Art is home to one of Europe’s largest 3D visualisation labs and recently produced a fly-through 3D animation of Mount Rushmore.

The DDS puts the arts together with science and technology in a practical way at The Hub at Pacific Quay, Glasgow’s digital media quarter. The research facility has a world-renowned laboratory for virtual reality, immersive stereo visualisation and high-resolution display facilities.

In addition, Glasgow’s universities and colleges offer a numerous array of arts, design and IT-based programmes that support the growth of the creative industry sector. There are also support programmes to allow for work-study opportunities in the creative fields. Among these are:

Course that provides an introduction to and basic skills development/hands-on experience in the digital media industry and its subsectors, including, for example, radio, television/DVD, digital/computer games and software, publishing and websites.
