18-storey Aparthotel Approved for Glasgow
13th Sep 2023
Plans to create a new 18-storey aparthotel in Glasgow’s city centre have been unanimously approved by the council’s planning committee.
Set to replace an unoccupied building on Cambridge Street, the 161-unit aparthotel will combine luxury guestrooms with the services of a hotel, including a lounge, bar, staff offices, and laundry facilities.
Architecture studio HAUS Collective has designed the building on the corner of Cambridge Street and Renfrew Street on behalf of PMI Developments and Peveril Securities.
The façade has been designed to complement neighbouring buildings through design and material choices. Two types of stone finishes will be used - textured stone finish for the main architectural elements and smooth stone finish panels for the secondary areas.
Windows have a chevron design on the ground floor, and on the upper floors, there will be a subtle chevron design and accent details on floors six and seven, where the building depth shifts. An outdoor patio will also be created on the sixth floor, which separates the lower and upper sections of the building.
HAUS co-founder Murray Henderson said: “Our commitment to excellence and contemporary design is evident in this aparthotel, which has been recognised by planners for its ‘bold, modern and refined architectural response’ in a previously overlooked area.
“The positive reception from Glasgow City Council’s planning committee is a testament to our team’s dedication and expertise. Working with PMI Developments and Peveril Securities has been a pleasure, and we look forward to bringing this project to life.”
PMI Developments director Nigel Jones said: “It’s fantastic to see such great design recognised by the planning committee. This development will bring much-needed investment to the Sauchiehall Street area. We have had a positive working relationship with Glasgow City Council, who have been proactive throughout the planning process.”
Peveril Securities director Chris Kirkland added: “This aparthotel will bolster Glasgow’s tourism, providing additional high-quality accommodation and will attract more visitors to this premier shopping area.”
