Tangent spotlight on heading

Name:  Andrew Stevenson
Job title: Co-founder
Company: Tangent
How long have you worked for Tanget? 19 years

What brought you to Glasgow?

I studied in Glasgow where I met David Whyte, Tangent’s other co-founder. Having delivered freelance design for clients in London, Edinbugh and across the country we always loved the energy and friendliness of Glasgow so setting up our first studio here felt natural and exciting.

What's hot in your sector right now?

Having a strong conceptual idea and bringing it to life through words, graphics, morion and film is incredibly satisfying, especially when it has scale and reach, and has a genuine impact on wider society. The biggest challenge and hot topic for our sector is the use of AI to generate concepts and ideas. By its very nature, AI can only reference existing content so is incapable of fresh or original thinking. It is fast and easy to use, but will always lack creativity, originality, and authenticity.

We have always been driven by ‘better’, not ‘more’. Our aim is to continue to attract the most interesting clients and projects, using our vast experience and knowledge to add real creative and strategic value to the organisations we partner with – work that brings people together, changes perceptions and inspires action.

What does Glasgow mean to you?

Tangent’s current studio is in the heart of the city centre, close to transport hubs, walking distance from many cultural attractions and in the midst of Glasgow’s varied retail and hospitality offering.

Glasgow has always been recognised as a city full of opportunity, arts, culture, events and commerce.

Tangent has always worked on branding for events and the city has been incredibly successful in attracting some of the world’s largest and most significant events. We’re proud to have played a role in the success of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, World Gymnastics Championships, European Championships 2018, 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships and many other cultural events.

The three best things are the wit and personality of its people, its cultural scene and commitment to keeping its incredible museums and venues free to attend and open to all.

Glasgow is a small city that has the confidence and attitude to successfully punch well above its weight. An infectiously bold approach that is letting us lead the way globally, such as our green and sustainable ambitions.
