Glasgow Ranked Among World’s Top Financial Centres

Two reports have been released in the last few weeks reiterating Glasgow’s place among the world’s financial powerhouses. 

Glasgow Climbs Global Financial Centres Index

The Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) provides an evaluation of competitiveness and rankings for the major financial centres around the world. This report ranks 121 cities and is released biannually in September and March. It ranks Glasgow alongside some of the world’s top performing cities: Glasgow ranks 37th globally and 12th in Western Europe. The city is making consistent and steady progress; one year ago, in September 2023, Glasgow ranked 51st and 21st.

Global Green Finance Index

The Global Green Finance Index (GGFI) is based on a range of quantitative measures and a worldwide survey of finance professionals. This is the 14th edition featuring 97 financial centres.

Glasgow has improved its position in the latest Index jumping eight places to 36th.

London retained its position as the world’s leading green finance centre. With Edinburgh also climbing the rankings, this further underlines Scotland’s global reputation and potential in green finance.
